Tuesday at 3:10 p.m., a UIC student was assaulted as she entered a women's washroom at Taft Hall, 826 S. Halsted St.
The student reported that she encountered the offender as he stood on sinks looking into the stalls. Upon seeing her, he jumped off the sink and pushed her to the ground while grabbing her. The victim fought off the assailant, who then fled the washroom. The victim was not injured.
The offender is described as a black male, 19 to 20 years old, 5-9 to 5-10 in height, 160 to 180 pounds, clean shaven, and wearing black pants, a black hoodie or jacket with a dark blue circle, and black shoes.
UIC Police are investigating and ask that you report any suspicious activity. The general number for UIC Police is 312-996-2830 and the emergency line is 312-355-5555 ("Five Fives for Help" from a campus phone.)
UIC Police recommend that you enter the emergency phone number on the speed dial of your cell phone.
Other security tips:
- be aware of your surroundings
- try to travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark
- use well-lit walkways
- on campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,000 across campus)
- the emergency number for UIC Police is 5-5555 or 312-355-5555, which should be set on speed-dial on your cell phone
- report crime promptly to police
The crime will be investigated by the UIC/CPD Joint Robbery Task Force. Anyone with information is asked to call UIC Police at (312) 996-2830.
