Make Better
Choices Study
Principal
Investigator: Bonnie Spring, Ph.D.
We
are currently conducting a study that investigates the effects of making
specific dietary and activity changes in fruit, vegetable and fat intake and
sedentary and physical activity.
The study
includes a screening process, laboratory sessions, and making changes in
your diet and activity.
The screening
process involves completing on-line questionnaires, a telephone interview and
a 3-hour in person screening session.
Information
obtained during the screening process will indicate whether you have the
characteristics we are looking for. If so, then you will qualify for our
study.
If eligible, you will be randomly assigned to make one of four possible sets of changes in your diet and activity. You will be asked to:
*Record diet and activity while following your usual routines for 2 weeks
*Receive a coaching session to help you change your diet and activity
*Record diet and activity while following the new routines for 3 weeks
*Attend two 4-hour laboratory sessions
*Record diet and activity occasionally during a follow-up phase
If you choose to participate in this study, you will be compensated. There are 4 phases to this study in which you will receive the following payments:
*screening session ($20)
*baseline recording/lab session phase ($100)
*diet and activity change recording/lab session phase ($175)
*follow-up phase ($435)
You will receive payment for the phases you complete.
If you are interested in participating, we ask that you complete on-line screening questionnaires about your typical consumption of fruit, vegetables and high fat food, as well as your typical engagement in physically active and sedentary pastimes.
*The purpose of the on-line questionnaires is to determine whether your diet and activity habits are consistent with eligibility criteria.
*The questionnaires take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
*Completing the questionnaires is completely voluntary and not required unless you are interested in participating in the study.
*There is no potential benefit, other than that you may learn about your eating and activity habits and/or you may be found eligible for the study.
*There are no potential risks of completing these questionnaires.
*Please note that the completion of these on-line questionnaires does not guarantee that you will be eligible to participate in the study. If you are not eligible for the study, your responses will be destroyed.
