Student Achievements
Sebastian Anderson, a major in the Classics Department with a concentration in Ancient Greek, has received a research grant from Phi Kappa Phi for his project on the Theology of Zeus in Aeschylus and Epic.
Phi Kappa Phi is a national honor society for students and faculty of all academic disciplines. Anderson was selected together with two other undergraduates to receive this grant. Such an award, which often goes to the sciences, is a first for the Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies.
The aim of Anderson's project is to explore the position of Zeus in early Greek theology. He suggests that a type of monotheism may be detected already in Hesiod and Homer's Iliad and which culminates in the fifth century tragedian Aeschylus.
Sebastian Anderson's faculty mentor is Nanno Marinatos, Professor of Classics.
