Notice Inviting Third Party Comments
The nurse-midwifery education program at the University of Illinois at Chicago is scheduled to be reviewed by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education ACME* (Board of Review (BOR) for continuing accreditation in January 2012. Please email any written third party comments to jburke@acnm.org or mail to ACME at 8403 Colesville Rd., Suite 1550, Silver Spring, MD by September 5, 2011.

Your comments will be included with other program materials at the January 2012 meeting. In all instances, your comments must directly relate to the continuing accreditation of this program and the ACME Criteria for Programmatic Accreditation, Revised December 2009. Please cite the particular criterion of concern in your comments. The criteria can be found online at http://www.midwife.org/ACME.cfm at the bottom of the page, at the bullet ACME Documents.

Redesignated as WHO Collaborating Center
The UIC College of Nursing continues to be a WHO Collaborating Centre for International Nursing Development in Primary Health Care, one of ten in the United States and forty-two worldwide.

Ranked 6th in NIH Funding
The UIC College of Nursing was ranked 6th in NIH funding for 2010.

UIC 2010 Inventor of the Year
David Carley and Miodrag Radulovacki were selected as the 2010 UIC Inventor of Year.  Learn more.

Integrated Health Care
(IHC)-North received an award for Excellance in Diabetes Management from Illinois Health Connect Your Healthcare Plus (YHP)-the case management division of Illinois Medicaid.

Newly Funded Projects

Rosemary White-Traut received a $1.2 million HRSA grant to add an Advanced Practice Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) specialty to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the College of Nursing. Please click here for more information.

Kathryn Christiansen and Judy Storfjell received a $1.5 million HRSA grant to expand the College's Integrated Health Care (IHC) clinics.

Judy Storfjell received a five year HRSA grant to expand the College of Nursing's Aviva Women's Health and Midwifery practice to a new freestanding clinic in the medically underserved areas of Humbolt Park, Logan Square and West Town.

Cynthia Fritschi received a two year K99 award from NINR, entitled "Momentary Biobehavioral Effects on Physical Activity in Adults with T2 Diabetes."

Julie Zerwic received the 2011 Established Investigator Award, Stress and Coping Research Section from the Midwest Nursing Research Society.

Mi Ja Kim received the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Midwest Nursing Research Society.

Shannon Zenk received the 2011 New Investigator Award from the Midwest Nursing Research Society.

Tracy MacSwain received the 2011 Graduate Student Faculty Excellence Award from the Graduate Student Nurses Organization.

JoEllen Wilbur, PhD ’84, MS ’75 received the Distinguished Contribution to Research in the Midwest Award from the Midwest Nursing Research Society.

Janet Larson, PhD ’88 received the 2011 Distinguished Nurse Alumna Award from the College of Nursing Alumni Association.

Mary Nies, PhD ’88, will be inducted into the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame from Sigma Theta Tau International.

Janice Buelow PhD ’00, MS ’89, Oisaeng Hong, PhD ’96, and Rosemarie King PhD ’90 will be inducted as Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing.

Janice Phillips, PhD ’93 received the 2011 Nurse Researcher of the Year award from the National Black Nurses Association.

Mary Maryland, PhD ’94 received the Lou Liay Spirit Award for Extraordinary Alumni Service from the University of Illinois Alumni Association.
