University
of Illinois at ChicagoA conference spearheaded by a consortium of Midwestern health and social service organizations, the University of Illinois at Chicago's Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns, and professionals was held at UIC and explore dissues of health, service delivery, and community building specifically as they pertain to enriching the lives of lesbians, bisexual and transgender women.
The conference offered keynote speeches, concurrent sessions, and discussions which examined the medical, psychosocial, and political factors that affect the well-being of lesbians, bisexual and transgender women (including issues of disability), as well as aspects of community and network building necessary to support the integration of women's health issues into diverse communities. We are pleased that this resulted in a working conference that brought community members, health activists and professionals together to produce useful tools for our communities. We are also pleased that additional funding was provided which will enable us to produce a proceedings of the conference. When information is available about when the proceedings will be available and how to secure a copy, it will be posted on the website.
The conference organizing committee recognizes that supported and educated communities are built by individuals with a range of expertise. We sought presentations that spanned grassroots organizing to professional medical models, in an effort to offer consumers and service providers forums to share and expand their knowledge and expertise. This site will remain as an archive to document the conference.
