A conference spearheaded by a consortium of Midwestern health and social service organizations, the University of Illinois at Chicago's Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns, and professionals will explore issues of health, service delivery, and community building specifically as they pertain to enriching the lives of lesbians, bisexual and transgender women. There was a recent change of title at the request of one of our major funders.
The conference will be structured to examine the medical, psychosocial, and political factors that affect the well-being of lesbians, bisexual and transgender women, as well as aspects of community and network building necessary to support the integration of women's health issues into diverse communities. We envision a working conference that will bring community members, health activists and professionals together to produce useful tools for our communities.
The conference organizing committee recognizes that supported and educated communities are built by individuals with a range of expertise. We sought presentations that span grassroots organizing to professional medical models, in an effort to offer consumers and service providers forums to share and expand their knowledge and expertise.
