  5th Annual
Student Research and Practice Awards Day
April 9, 2010

We are pleased to announce the UIC School of Public Health's Fifth Annual Student Research and Practice Awards Day. We will be honoring students competing in poster competitions and those receiving this year’s SPH and Division awards. Poster viewing will be followed by a mid-afternoon awards ceremony and reception.

Students are encouraged to consider entering one or both of the following:

SPH Research and Practice Poster Competition - This is a school-wide competition open to all SPH students.

Four awards in the amount of three hundred dollars will be given to:

  • One  masters and one doctoral student for posters that reflect distinction in public health research
  • One masters and one doctoral student for posters that reflect excellence in public health practice

Global Health Poster Competition -The Global Health Initiative (GHI)  at the School of Public Health will hold a simultaneous competition.  One hundred dollars ($100.00) will be awarded to one student who presents the highest scoring research poster on a global health topic.  Posters submitted for the Global Health Competition will also be considered for the SPH research competition described above.

Evaluation criteria for the competition is posted on the Global Health Initiative website at:

Judging - Competing students MUST be available for the judging period. Attendance for the public viewing sessions is strongly recommended. The judging time and place will be announced shortly.

Judging Team – Faculty and alumni who wish to volunteer as poster judges are encouraged to contact Dr. Davis (fayed@uic.edu)

Poster Formatting Workshop – Rachel Gauvin from the SPH Poster Printing Office will be presenting a poster formatting workshop on March 17, 2010 from 10 AM to 11:00 AM in Rm. 1136.  Please RSVP to Julie Kong (jckong@uic.edu) if you plan to attend this recommended session.

Poster Printing - Poster printing services (one poster printing is free) will be available to students. Using posters that have been presented elsewhere is encouraged. Abstract and poster submission  guidelines for the competition will be posted shortly:  http://www.uic.edu/sph/research.htm.


 UIC Student Research Forum – In addition to our research competition, we encourage students to participate in the UIC Student Research Forum on April 20, 2010 (1:00 PM to 5:30 PM) at the UIC Forum, 725 W.
