The functional concept of the Circle of Willis was developed by McDonald and Potter.
In the book on the arterial system, the classical illustration (Fig. 4.2) of the separate streams within the basilar artery (cf infra) is used to introduce the concept of "dead points" i.e. points of balance flow.
The normal distribution of those dead points is illustrated in Figure 3 in Chapter 19 on Vertebral Artery Surgery.
