Karl Deutsch “Today war is a greater threat to human life than famine or disease…In our time, research on the causes of war and ways to contain, control, and finally abolish all-out war has become an expression of mankind’s will to live.”

This site is a resource for my students and an archive of my research.

I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Illinois - Chicago but I am moving to the University of Glasgow in 2012.

If you are looking for class notes, go to the Teaching Information section (also includes info on independent study and letters of rec).

My primary areas of research are International Relations and Race/Ethnicity Politics.  I am presently working on projects that involve the study of international rivalries, classification systems of war, and the relevance of race/ethnicity to international relations.

I was born and raised Los Angeles, California.  I graduated from Whittier College and then went on to complete a Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University.  I taught at Texas State University for a bit and now teach in the Political Science Department at UIC in Chicago.  I spend my free time playing with my dog in Lincoln Park, watching baseball (go Cubs), and trying to get work done in tea shops.
