Prospective Graduate Students

We in the Community and Prevention Division at UIC are always interested in accepting well qualified and motivated students with a commitment to the principles of Community Psychology into our program

Students interested in working with me as their research advisor must have a strong interest in research on immigrant and refugee issues. Qualified students who are themselves from refugee/immigrant background are encouraged to apply. Graduate students will have opportunities to learn about Community Psychology and to apply its principles to community-based research on immigration issues. Students interested in this topic can benefit from expertise of several of our faculty who study immigrant and ethnic minority populations. In addition, we have ongoing collaborations with faculty in other disciplines at UIC interested in immigration issues. Graduate students can also create a minor focused on Immigration Studies.

Students interested in graduate school in Clinical Psychology with an immigration focus and interested in working with me as their research advisor may also apply. As an affiliate faculty member in the Clinical Division, I am able to supervise research of Clinical Psychology students at UIC. Students interested in this option can apply to the UIC Clinical Program, provided they have an interest in Community Psychology. Such students will be strongly encouraged to select Community Psychology as their minor, so that they can develop a shared language and perspective with members of my research team.
