Finding Out About UIC Research
Your next assignment requires you to find out about a particular UIC research project. There are
lots of places where you can get information on this. Here are a few:
- •The home page on the UIC web site often contains announcements of recent research
findings at UIC
- •Both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times often have articles on UIC research
projects.
- •Almost every UIC department and research organization has a web site. Most of these
sites contain discussions of current research
Please note: the discussion of research in the above sources will usually be very brief, usually in
the form of a press release. We do not want you to merely paraphrase the press release or
newspaper article. You need to find out more about the research including where it was
published, what the findings were and whatever else you think is important.
You can also look in primary sources such as those given below
- •You can find out about a particular faculty member's research which has been published
in journals by looking them up in various library resources such as PsychInfo, Reader's
Guide etc.
- •You can find out about faculty-written books in the library catalog. If you use a book as
an example, be sure that you use a book based on research, rather than a text book. If you
are unsure about a particular book, please ask.
