    • Ultrasonic Extractor with microtip (Heat Systems, Ultrasonic, Inc.)
    • Sohxlet extractor (x12) and water chiller
  • Separation: Equipment required for thin layer chromatography (TLC) and column liquid chromatography (CLC) is available.
  • Freeze dryer: Labconco Freeze Dry System/Freezone 4.5
  • Elemental analysis: Carlo Erba, CHONS elemental analyser: Purchased with Hormoz Bassirirad from the Department of Biological Sciences. This instrument, located 4013 SEL, is able to achieve high precision quantitative analysis of elemental C, N, O, H and S.  Elemental analysis is also done in EIGL.
  • U.V. spectrophotometry: Beckman DU-7 spectrophotometer
  • Computing facility: The organic geochemistry laboratory at UIC currently uses 3 IBM compatible personal computers, 1 HP Kayak workstation, 1 HP vectra workstation, and 3 laser printers.  All students are equipped upon arrival with a personal computer belonging to OGL (x5).
  • Computerized spectral library:
    • Wiley 6th edition, 275K spectra.
    • Geochemical and Petrochemical compounds library 2nd ed., 1.1K spectra.
    • OGL spectral library: The OGL constructed during the last few years a library of all mass spectra of biomarkers published in geochemical journals. This library includes in excess of 2000 spectra of organic molecules of biogeochemical interest.
