Here is a close up photo of the intertidal zone near Kuweit city (Kuweit). On that shot you can reconstruct a suite of events. You can try to reconstruct the order of the following events: 1-  tide is going down, 2- the gastropods are feeding, 3- the gastropods bury themself in the sand, 3- it rains, 4- the geologists arrive on site.

In a completely different area of the world........... 

Fall 2002, my trip to the Dry Valleys of Anctartica with Peter Doran was just wonderful. 
Here is a photo of the camp at Lake Hoare with the Canada glacier in the background.
We collected sediment cores for paleoclimate reconstruction, and many samples of microbial mats. 

We also collected some of the lichens and mats growing in ephemeral streams (below).
