Text: David M. Levine, Mark L. Berenson, and David Stephan, Statistics for Managers, Using Microsoft Excel, Prentice Hall, 2nd edition, 1998.

Goal: The goal of the course is to introduce students to the basics of applied statistics using MS Excel to illustrate the analysis. Statistics is not a spectator sport, so the class meetings will be in the computer lab. Lab work and assignments must be turned in on time to receive full credit. You may work on the 4 assignments together with others, each person must submit his or her own answers. The quizzes are open book, but must be individual work without consultations.

Place: All course meetings will occur in the computer lab SEL 2249 and/or SEL 2249F. July 23 and 26 class will meet 2-5 p.m., July 25 1-4 p.m., and July 30-August 3 9:30 a.m.-12 noon.

Websites: The course assignments and other materials will be posted at http://www.uic.edu/~hroberts/ids531.html and at the CourseInfo website (link to CourseInfo from the other class website). Quizzes, grades and announcements will be available on the CourseInfo website.
