The host information you provided was devoid of an indication of abuse. Here is what I recieved from you: from host (xxxxx.yyyy.uic.edu [128.248.260.270]) please close your open mail relay. -- user ------------------- user@complaint.site ------------------- I could do a DNS lookup on any hostname in your domain, and provide you with an analogous complaint. I need enough of the header to indicate that xxxxx is in fact relaying. Usually this includes the Received: part of the Received: header, as well as the timestamp at the end of the Received: header. Not to mention the other headers and perhaps the body of the offensive message. Anything less is not a usable complaint. All you have succesfully done is told us that you know that xxxxx is in the ORBS database (which means that ORBS has notified us), that you know how to test SMTP relaying, and that you know where to find instructions on how to close open relays for the OS that you determined xxxxx is running, based on the header that you failed to include. Rest assured that we will endeavor to close this relay. In the mean time, perhaps you should convince your postmaster to block email from ORBS listed hosts, if you consider an ORBS listing to be worth the electrons it is encoded in. -- UIC Postmaster incarnated as John Mason - UIC ACCC
