CULTURAL SELF-INTRODUCTION

Purposes

To understand the diversity of cultural backgrounds present in the class.

To allow you to become acquainted with others in the class.

This exercise is designed to allow you to begin grappling with the idea of culture.

Directions

Write a one-page paper describing your cultural background.

The paper must be typewritten, proofread, printed out, and turned in at the beginning of the next class meeting.

Despite those formal requirements, the writing itself should be somewhat informal and does not require library research or preparation beyond your own knowledge.

Outcome

Come prepared to give a short overview of your paper to a small group in the next class meeting. Also think about how the experience of writing the paper affected you in any way.
