INTERCULTURAL SIMULATION
Task
With four-to-six other students, prepare a written script for ten-minute demonstration and present to the class at least three behaviors involved in cross-cultural face-to-face meetings.
For this assignment you will be assigned to a group , which will be as diverse as possible.
Directions
Investigate any two cultures to learn the answers to the following questions:
1. What behaviors are appropriate for initial face-to-face meetings with individuals from these cultures?
2. What behaviors that someone from one of the cultures is likely to exhibit would make the individuals from the other culture feel uncomfortable?
3. How can you let these individuals know that you are uncomfortable?
4. How can you ascertain this individuals initial feelings about you and your behavior?
5. How an you become better acquainted with this individual?
You can base much of your research on the experiences of the group members, but do whatever additional research is needed to find detailed, specific answers to each question.
Schedule at least two meetings, beyond the initial class session to plan for your group presentation and write the script. Before your presentation, schedule a rehearsal with feedback from a non-participant observer. Turn in a copy of the observers comments at your presentation.
During the allottted time period for your group, demonstrate (not discuss) for the class at least three behaviors drawn from your research of the above questions. Remember that much of ordinary communication takes place using nonverbal codes. The more specific the information you have about each behavior, the easier time you will have demonstrating it.
Along with the observer comments, turn in the script before your presentation.. The script must be typewritten, proofread, and printed out.
Outcome
Your grade on the assignment will be based on the skit/presentation and the written script. All group members are expected to contribute to the assignment. Any student who does not participate actively will receive a lower grade.
