Lab people
Bin He
Research: Everything
that goes on in the He lab, and even some of the stuff that goes
on in the Rong lab. I am the Captain of the ship so I take a lot
of time and care to make sure that everyone has what they need
and fully understands what they are doing. I am proud of my ship
and people.

Mainly, my research
is focused on how Tva functions as a viral receptor in binding
and post-binding steps during virus entry. I'm presently
identifying and confirming key residues in a human low density
lipoprotein receptor repeat of Tva. I also dabble in other
research projects, since I am a Research Specialist. So, if you
have questions, are selling something, or want something fixed,
I'm the woman you are looking for. In my spare time I do a lot of
rollerblading and fraternizing with people in the city.

The research I
am participating is focused on viral strategies to escape
cellular anti-viral defenses. I like to work at night and have
good relaxed sleep to late morning. I enjoy plenty of department
seminars and academic clubs. I am very happy to have chosen this
lab because every one of us is taught personally by Bin and we
have such a nice, kind and warm lady- M.E. Finally, the swimming
pool, Ping-Pang, and fitness room are just across the street.
Whenever you want just go!

My research goal
is to understand the role of a patch of acidic residues found on
one of the Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor (LDLR) modules. I am
attempting to understand what the most important role for these
acidic residues is: binding ligand, structure of the receptor
molecule, or other unknown purposes. Hopefully we will understand
more about the LDLR that is involved in the uptake of cholesterol
from the blood.
Translation: I
play around with mutated DNA and infect poor, helpless cells with
a nasty bird virus so that people who like to eat bacon and eggs
every morning may be able to live a little bit longer. Everyone
seems to be interested in that nowadays! Check our lab out... we
have a lot of fun here!
Outside of the lab
I am a homebody and like to spend time with my family and
extended family. One of my favorite things is to cuddle up on a
cold night with a blanket, and watch a movie with good friends.

What do I do daily? I cannot
tell you really. I feel like a kid playing with his toys. You get
the picture, right? Its up to the tech to take care of the lab,
and its up to others to get all the research done. I am just much
to do about nothing.
Goal of my existence: I want
to create a gentler and kinder lab so people can have fun, and
they can realize their dreams in life with a little help from the
people they are working with! YOU CAN and I CARE!

Research: My main
research focus of the moment, although changes weekly, is the
study of viral mechanisms used to escape host anti-viral
defenses. I also have been working on mapping the binding domain
of gamma one 34.5.
Favorite color:
Black.
What I do in my spare
time: Hang out with Deb and fraternize with people in the city, I
also like to hang out with my other VIP lab group mates,
especially if I can get some nice Chinese home cooking :-), or
Chase Yogi Bear around.
Other duties: I am
also in charge of the welfare of the lab... the ordering and make
sure all is in working order... I guess I'm the cruise director
of this ship...

Wang (Deborah)
I joined the wRong lab in
September 1999. My general interest is in molecular virology
especially viral entry mechanisms. Visit our website often, you
will find my research progress.
Let's talk something
else. Besides doing research, I enjoy travelling. "Yellow
Stone National Park" will be my next stop. Want to join me?
:-)
