Katie
Romeo is a doctoral student in Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned her BA in Education from Antioch College, in Yellow Springs, OH, where she enjoyed internships as a teacher and assistant teacher at PS1 Charter School in Denver, CO, and as a Residence Youth Care Worker at the C.A.P.T.A.I.N. Youth Home in Clifton Park, NY. In Chicago, she completed her MEd in Educational Studies, while continuing to work with adolescents as a tutor at the Gads Hill Center in Pilsen, and as a teacher at both the Family Learning Center and the Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School through the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in Humboldt Park. Katie is particularly interested in youth’s peer group perceptions of the acceptability of exclusion and harassment, as well as how these perceptions are influenced by adult norms. She is currently the Graduate Assistant to the Council on Teacher Education, which facilitates certification of teachers in the Chicago area.
