Lon-Mu Liu is Professor of Information and Decision Sciences in the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He did his undergraduate work at National Taiwan University (B.A. in Agronomy in 1971) and his graduate work at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He obtained an M.S. degree in Statistics in 1973, an M.S. degree in Computer Science in 1977, and a Ph.D. degree in Statistics in 1978. Liu currently serves as an Associate Editor for Computational Statistics and Data Analysis (CSDA), and is an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). In addition to his extensive publication in research and professional journals, Liu has devoted major efforts in the area of software development and new computer technologies in his research career. He developed a time series analysis program in the BMDP Package between 1979 and 1980. This program has become on of the most important programs in the BMDP Package. Since joining the University of Illinois in 1981, Liu has developed an extensive advanced statistical software system in collaboration with several renown experts, including Professors G. E. P. Box of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, M. E. Muller of the Ohio State University, and G. C. Tiao of the University of Chicago. This software, the SCA Statistical System, is an unique integrated package encompassing applications in forecasting and time series modelling, quality and productivity improvement, and general statistical analysis. It is currently used worldwide in many major commercial and government organizations, research institutes, and universities. Through his research expertise and computer software, Liu has extensive experiences in working with major corporations as well as small business in the application of statistics and information technologies in the workplace. Liu teaches courses in statistics, information system and financial investments for undergraduates, graduate, and MBA students. His current research interests include software engineering, large-scale forecasting applications, inventory control and labor scheduling, methodology for time series analysis and forecasting, and Web technologies. |
