STATISTICAL SOFTWARE

Lon-Mu Liu

The BMDP2T Program (1978 - 1980)

The BMDP2T Program, one of the programs in the BMDP Package, was developed by Professor Liu when he was a researcher at UCLA.  BMDP2T provides capabilities for Box-Jenkins ARIMA modeling, intervention analysis, and transfer function modeling.   It is one of the most frequently used programs in the BMDP Package.

The SCA Statistical System (1981 - present)

Professor Liu is a principal software developer responsible for the design and implementation of the SCA Statistical System since its inception in 1981.  Under Professor Liu's leadership, the SCA System grew to become a major software system.   It provides extensive capabilities for research and application in the areas of (1) time series analysis and forecasting, (2) quality and productivity improvement using statistical methods, and (3) general statistical analysis.  This makes the SCA System a unique integrated software system with extensive statistical applications.   Currently, the entire SCA System contains more than 350,000 lines of code.   Its capabilities are documented in 6 volumes of reference manuals.  Designed to be portable and expandable, it runs on more than 20 different operating systems, including mainframe, workstation, and personal computers.  The design and implementation of the SCA System is also a major accomplishment from a software engineering point of view.  The SCA System is highly regarded in both academia and industry.
