Larry  W.  Bennett, Ph.D.

Larry Bennett is Associate Professor, Jane Addams College of Social Work, University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also received his Ph.D. in 1990. From 1973 to 1988, he worked in a variety of mental health and family service agencies. He was a co-founder of the Turning Point Domestic Abuse Offenders Program in 1985.  He has been at the University of Illinois at  Chicago since 1988, except for the academic year 1992-1993 when he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Carthage College, Kenosha Wisconsin.

Larry's research interests include the implementation of evidence-based practice in social service agencies, the relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence, the structure and effectiveness of community based batterers intervention systems, and the developmental/structural links between various forms of men's violence such as bullying, sexual harassment, dating violence, and adult partner abuse. He is the author of articles and book chapters on substance abuse and domestic violence, adolescent peer sexual harassment, batterers, and batterer intervention programs, and is co-author of  Evaluation of services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault (Sage Press, 2002).

In addition to public presentations, workshops, and lectures, Larry has served on the domestic violence advisory groups of several public agencies, including the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Chicago Department of Public Health.  He also served on the Consensus Panel on Family Violence of the U.S. Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and since 1997 has chaired the Illinois Substance Abuse - Domestic Violence Interdisciplinary Task Force. Along with Durie Bennett, Larry also practices in Crystal Lake, Illinois, limiting his portion of the practice to court ordered child custody evaluation.  Larry is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois and a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
