Hi..
FYI.. these are the attendance records ONLY. It doesnt include any extra points you get for participating in class/answering questions.
You get 1 attendance point if you answer at least %50 of the questions. If you see a 0 that means you left early and missed more than half of the questions. If you were not present at all you get no points.
The full participation grade will include the attendance points +1 point for each answer, +1 point for each correct answer.

Basic Information
This course will introduce you to Astronomy and Cosmology; the makeup of the solar system, nature of stars and their evolution, the organization of galaxies and the large-scale structure and evolution of the universe.
We will also discuss how the largest structures in the universe are intimately linked to the smallest scales known, elementary particles. We will also learn how our understanding of light and matter, and our interpretation of experiments, has changed over time.

Homework
Homework problems will be based on the exercises at the end of each chapter, but it must be completed on-line at the website Mastering Astronomy http://www.masteringastronomy.com.
The mastering astronomy course ID is UICPHY112SPRING10. When registering make sure to use your UIN when prompt for your student ID.
The homework assignments will be due by 11pm CST on the day listed in the class outline below. The value of each homework problem starts at full credit if completed on (or before) the due date, after then it decreases automatically every hour until homework problems completed on noon the day following the deadline are worth 0%.
The online system will always “save your work” so you can easily work on the problems throughout the week is several sessions.
To use this program, you need a Student Access Kit which comes with your textbook. Please follow the directions in the access kit for registering.

Student response devices (i>clickers) will be used during lectures. Students will obtain credit for class participation and answering correctly to the small quizzes. The goal is to encourage a more interactive classroom. Please register your i>clicker at http://www.iclicker.com/registration/
Lab
There will be no lab on the first or second week of classes. Please check the Class Outline below for the detailed schedule.
