The Beethoven Health Center is proud to introduce a new and exciting program. The program, PHASES: Partners for Health, Academic, Social & Emotional Success, aims to help children get off to the best possible start by helping them to develop social and educational skills necessary for success in school, at home, and in life.

Q. What exactly is the PHASES Program?
A: PHASES is a collaborative program between the Beethoven Health Center, University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Ounce of Prevention Fund. This Program focuses on strengthening partnerships between parents and teachers and improving the attendance, behavior and school performance of our young children (grades Pre-K through second).

Q. How does PHASES work?
A. PHASES works by involving parents and teachers in two-way communication, providing classroom support to teachers and students, and providing individual and small group support services to children.

  • School-Family Partnerships (SFP) aim to provide teachers and parents with strategies to enhance home-school communication and family involvement in children’s learning
  • Counseling and support services help students develop learning skills and other school-related competencies (e.g. positive identity, social skills and responsible behavior)
  • Program evaluation ensures that the PHASES Program reflects the needs and accomplishments of Beethoven.

When parents, teachers and school staff work as partners, we maximize the chances that our children will be successful in all aspects of their lives!

Q. The PHASES Program sounds interesting! How can my child and I get involved?
A. All parents and children in grades Pre-K through two are involved in PHASES school-family partnership efforts. When parents and teachers work together, children benefit academically, behaviorally and socially.

In cases where teachers, PHASES staff, and parents agree that a child could benefit from more individualized attention, a child may participate in PHASES Counseling Services Program.

PHASES Counseling Program is available to students who lack interest or confidence in their schoolwork, have difficulty controlling their anger, have difficulty making and keeping friends, or simply worry a lot.
