WELCOME
Third year medical students at the University of Illinois at Chicago have a six-week rotation through different clinics of the Department of Family Medicine, as well as through
private clinical offices of family physicians affiliated with the Department. On several occasions during this rotation, students will have cases that create uncertainty for them,
that are puzzling to them for one or more reasons. The discussion of these cases, besides providing basic facts, focus on what the students experience as problematic,
what they really wish to understand better. We call these puzzling cases "clinical quandaries."
Clinical Quandaries Online, aka CQO, uses FirstClass Intranet Server/Client as a
means to convey discussions about clinical quandaries. In a sense, FirstClass integrates the facilities of typical email, Listserv and Usenet newsgroup systems,
plus several features, under a single client/server collaborative environment. If you are a third year medical student at UIC, and you want to test drive CQO, please contact Maureen Gecht for more information. For further information about
FirstClass being used at UIC, please visit this Website Our goals for CQO are to promote long time self-learning, to develop skills in
appraising the medical literature and to know how to deal with uncertainty in medicine. Therefore, in addition to open discussions, we also apply
evidence-based medicine (EBM) and medical decision making methods, whenever applicable. |
