These tracks below are some of
the best House Music tracks from Chicago back in the '80s. There are many
more good tracks, but I just don't have the space. House music became
very popular in Chicago's around 1983, and places like the
WAREHOUSE and PLAYGROUND was the most popular spots (house parties). Pioneers Dj
Frankie Knuckles (the DJ who created house, while being home DJ in the
Warehouse around 1977 to 1983.) and Farley JackMaster Funk ( The
Pioneer for the JACK style House music) changed Chicago's
Music and dance scene. I was also a good House dancers during the earlier
stage, mostly doing the dance we called JACK. There were two type of
House dances, JACK and DEEP HOUSE. JACK dancers was doing a lot of
footworks, legs movements, very similar to hip hop dance in the mid-'80s. DEEP HOUSE
was more bouncing, with lot of spins, very similar to African dances.
The dress style were also different, JACK dancers dressed casual while
DEEP house dancers dressed up, but both wore big shirts, with over size baggie
pants, some JACK dancers wore very long jackets and they sported a box
hair style, or bowl hair style. The music below were more for JACK
dancers.
Today House parties are still going on strong in Chicago. Farley Jackmaster Funk is back on the scene and also DJ Fast Eddie. Bad Boy Bill is probably the first house DJ to win a national DJ contest (check out the DMC national DJ contest), I seen this guy battled live before, and he was very good. Presently underground DJ WaxMaster is very popular and DJ Clint "throwdown" Gent is still throwing House parties. Hip Hop is on the raise in Chicago, but House music is still going strong in the Windy City. I selected a few tracks from a 150 tracks House Music collection.
