Check out this letter from a DJ name Itchy whom is presently making music for breakdancers (poppers, breakers, and lockers). This is something breakers and poppers definitely needs, because most of the music we dance to is from the '80s.

Who is itchy?

What happened...

It was 1984 when I started dj-ing and bought my first 12"es. at that time it was mostly R&B and disco. I listened to that kind of music in the disco's and on a special radio program "in the mix" by Ben Liebrand", a leading dutch dj at that time. I started mixing tapes which I sold at school, and started DJ-ing for breakdancers in a local clubhouse.

2 years later "in the mix" dissapeared from the radio. I placed an ad in a disco-dance magazine where people, who were regular listeners, could send tapes to me for mixes.

I did n't expect to much of that, but when that issue appeared, my post box was loaded with tapes. After graduating the school of graphic arts, I dedicated my self to mixing, and started "Quality home mixes". I made a mix every month, and after a while I had a lot of regular clients. I participated in mixing championships ending up 2nd. in 1989. At that time the home mixing business kinda grew out of proportion. It was to successful to continue it illegally so I quit that and started to mess with samplers, drummachines and synths. I got a job as a graphic designer, and in my spare time I created the music that I missed in the record stores.... electric boogie. Right now I still combine working as a freelance graphic designer for advertising agencies with dj-ing in different dance clubs and creating breakdance music.

What's happening...

A couple of years ago I ran in to Max. He is one of the breakdance crew, I used to play for in the local clubhouse at the time. He is also busy with creating hip-hop and dance music, working together with FLX in a cracked school's lecture hall. They also do live acts, running their sequences on stage. I asked him to make a dance version of "just break" a cut I created, using a lot of scratching and a Commodore Amiga as a speech synthesizer. DNA, the former "Urban Dance Squad" DJ, came across their version, called "on a mision". He did the final mastering and arranged a label deal with DAP records. It is still on the list of releases. After leaving UDS, DNA started creating rough electro cuts which he released a couple on DAP records. A few weeks ago he called me, to do some tracks in my home studio. Right now, work is in progress and we already did some wicked stuff. We use a lot of anolougue sounds and effects. What more can I say... things are definetly promesing so... keep checking!

peace!
